Tailored Design Timeline | 10 Weeks

(10 week timing does not take into account the time to schedule from consultation to the design-hand off meeting as this is highly dependent on all parties availability and the current HDC pipeline)

Initial Consultation

An HDC project consultant meets with the prospective client virtually or in their home to see the space, discuss the general scope of the project being considered, and to decide if we are a good fit for the project/client needs.

Timing: 2 - 3 business days

Meeting Outcomes: Rough range estimate for the proposed project. Design fees communicated. Next steps are outlined.

Design Under Contract

If the client decides to move forward with the full design-build option, a contract is drawn up and signed. 50% of the design fee due upon signature. The project is entered into the design pipeline.

Timing: Upon agreement

Meeting Outcomes: Signed Tailored Design contract & initial design payment made/received.

Design Hand-Off

The client will meet the assigned design team member for the project along with the HDC project consultant, design team manager, and the HDC estimator at the project space.

Timing: 2 weeks

Meeting Outcomes: Design staff introduced. Project scope reviewed. Official space measurements taken. Client invited into project Pinterest board.

Design Kick-Off

Client reviews their inspirational images and discusses their vision with their designer, providing an idea of what direction the design should take and an understanding of what current pain points are within the space.

Timing: 3 weeks

Meeting Outcomes: Designer informed and ready to create layout plans and provide selection options.

Initial Design Review Meeting

Client will meet at the showroom with the dedicated designer to review idea boards as well as layout and finish options.

Timing: 2 weeks

Meeting Outcomes: Layout approved. 80% of selections finalized.

Final Review Meeting

Client approves any outstanding selections and with the designer, finalizes design details (tile pattern, grout and edging, paint sheens, etc.)

Timing: 1 week

Meeting Outcomes: Finalized design plan approved.

Trade Site Visit

Once the design packet is approved, our estimator will set up a site visit with our trade partners.

Timing: 1 week

Meeting Outcomes: Project labor time and cost estimates. Areas of possible concern identified (if any).

Final Estimating

The estimator takes the design selection information along with the trade estimates and finalizes the budget for the project plan.

Timing: 1 week

Meeting Outcomes: The project’s finalized, fixed* budget.

Construction Contract Presentation

A construction contract is presented with the finalized, approved design plan and fixed* budget.

*Included in each contract, there are escalation and de-escalation clauses. Additionally, the budget is subject to change should alterations be made to the construction plans after signing.
